UX Movement have some good reasons why we should be using top-aligned form labels.
Basically, they’re easier to read on mobile devices, and international users find them more intuitive.
I also think that they give you more flexibility to describe the field, instead of just using 4-5 words and hoping like crazy that people will know what you mean.
